What is Google My Business (GMB)?
Google My Business (GMB) is a free tool provided by Google that allows businesses to manage their online presence across Google Search and Google Maps. It helps businesses appear in local search results, showcase their services, and engage with customers.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Google My Business Profile
Step 1: Sign In or Create a Google Account
To create a GMB profile, you need a Google account. If you don’t have one, go to Google Sign Up to create an account.
Step 2: Visit Google My Business
Go to the Google My Business website and click on “Manage Now.”
Step 3: Enter Your Business Name
Type in your business name exactly as you want it to appear. If your business name is already in Google's database, you may see a suggestion to claim an existing listing.
Step 4: Select Your Business Category
Choose the most relevant category for your business. This helps Google show your business to the right audience.
Step 5: Add Your Business Location (If Applicable)
If you have a physical location, select Yes and enter your address.
If you provide services but don’t have a storefront, you can list your service areas instead.
Step 6: Add Contact Details
Enter your business phone number and website URL so customers can easily reach you.
Step 7: Verify Your Business
Google requires verification to confirm your business location. You can verify via:
Postcard: Google sends a postcard with a verification code to your business address.
Phone or Email: Some businesses can verify via phone call or email.
Instant Verification: Available for some businesses if they have already been verified through Google Search Console.
Step 8: Complete Your Profile
Once verified, enhance your listing by adding:
Business hours
Photos and videos
Services and products
A business description
